Allah teaches us through the story of the Sahabi and the enemy combatant that our judgments are limited to what is apparent while the unseen realities of the heart belong solely to Him. The enemy in his final moments declared the shahada—not out of sincere faith but as a desperate ploy to save himself. The Sahabi Usaamah acted on what he saw unaware of the man’s hidden intentions. Yet RasulAllah ﷺ reminded him—and all of us—that our role is not to decipher the depths of another’s heart. We are not granted the authority to judge inner motives or label others as hypocrites. This profound lesson underscores a divine principle: our duty is to act justly based on outward actions while leaving the unseen to Allah. Embracing this humility in judgment is what Allah truly wants from us.
