“Allah has given a slave of His the choice between this world and what is with Him, and the slave has chosen what is with his Lord.”
After hearing these words from the Prophet (ṣallallāhu ‘alayhi wa sallam) Abu Bakr (raḍyAllāhu ‘anhu) began to weep, for more than anyone else Abu Bakr knew the slave whom the Prophet (ṣallallāhu ‘alayhi wa sallam) was speaking about was himself and that the hidden meaning in these words was that the Prophet’s (ṣallallāhu ‘alayhi wa sallam) time on this earth was soon coming to an end.
On Monday 12th Rabi’ al-awwal on the 11th year of the Hijra whilst resting in the arms of his beloved wife ‘Ā’ishah (raḍyAllāhu ‘anha) the Prophet (ṣallallāhu ‘alayhi wa sallam) departed this earth and returned to His Lord.
The Messenger of Allah may not be amongst us any more but his legacy still lives on and until the end of time mankind strives to emulate his perfect example.
