Yasir Qadhi

In this video, Shaykh Dr. Yasir Qadhi discusses the Orlando shooting and how Muslims should react and protect themselves.

Some highlights:
-The Prophet (pbuh) had warned about fitna (trials) which in essence separates out believers like pure vs. impure gold.
-The religion of Islam does not allow the killing of innocent lives. Allah says: “whoever kills an innocent soul it is as if he has killed all of mankind”
-Our Prophet (pbuh) said: Whoever kills a non-Muslim with whom there is a treaty, that person will not smell the scent of paradise
-No religion allows such evil
-Once we have condemned this atrocity, we should ask “why must we have to condemn or apologize” every time for something we had nothing to do with?
-Other race, ethnicity or religious groups don’t have to answer for bad apples in their community, yet there appears to be a double standard for Muslims
-We must point out that “I represent myself, he (criminal) doesn’t represent me”
-If anyone asks what is Islam’s position on sexual orientation issues? This question should be irrelevant to this discussion because Islam doesn’t allow the killing of anyone even if you disagree with them.
-Our position should be that Islam has a specific moral and ethical code and opinion, but this does not preclude others from the legal and political right to practice as they please. This is especially true in a non-Muslim country. We need to live and let live, so that neither party may impose their lifestyle on the other.
-This is similar to many Christian positions on abortion. Just because some disagree doesn’t mean they have the right to kill a doctor who assists in abortion.
-Our religion is being smeared and it is time for extra vigilance.
-There are mobile apps which we can use if in danger, as they send out your GPS coordinates, video footage, phone call and text/sms message to your chosen loved ones/contacts. If safety can be maintained, you can also video record the situation (even without special apps).
-If safety is not a concern, we should engage in calculated and well informed discussion and confront others, but in a wise manner which brings positive results.
-We must respond to evil with good and kindness
