In this episode of Lives of the Khulafaa, Shaykh Dr Yasir Qadhi covers Part 2 of the life of the great warrior and commander, Khalid Ibn Al Waleed[R]. He converted to Islam eight years after the Hijrah, twenty one years after the beginning of Islam itself. Khalid Ibn Al Waleed was known to have light skin, very similar looking to Umar Ibn-Al-Khattab, broad shoulders, very big beard & muscular,so much so that they say that Khalid and Umar were sometimes confused for one another at a distance. Now The Banu Makhzum, which is his tribe, were known for being the most well trained in the arts of war. They prided themselves on their elite training and they typically had the best weapons, relating back to the money they had. So Khalid grew up being trained by the same people that trained his tribe. He learnt how to ride horses, using bows and arrows and so on.
During the time of the Khulafa Ar-Rashidoon, Abu Bakr As-Siddiq was in charge and the battle and of the wars of Riddah began to take place. Abu Bakr As-Siddiq assigned Khalid Ibn Al Waleed[R] to take charge of the largest insurrections against the Muslim empire at the time. He was known as the primary General throughout the war. There was one incident that occurred during that time, that perhaps might be the most controversial incident in the life of Khalid Ibn Al Waleed[R].
