Allah ﷻ reveals a chilling reality: the moment Islam spread beyond the Prophet’s ﷺ direct cultivation, the Ummah’s greatest threat became its own people’s unchecked assumptions. Picture this:

Two rival tribes embrace Islam. One whispers to the Prophet ﷺ: “Those others? Be careful—maybe they poisoned your drink.” No proof. Just tribal hatred repackaged as “concern.” Allah ﷻ responds with a thunderous command:
[49:6] إِن جَآءَكُمْ فَاسِقٌۢ بِنَبَإٍۢ فَتَبَيَّنُوٓا۟
“If a wicked person comes to you with news, verify it!”

Why? Because this is how corruption spreads:

Biased whispers (“I’m just looking out for you…”)
Unverified claims (“Someone told me…”)
Tribal loyalty overriding truth (“My people would never lie…”)
And into this tinderbox, Allah ﷻ drops one of the Quran’s most disturbing images—a graphic warning about what happens when we let suspicion fester. The message is clear: Without active verification and self-purification, even new Muslims will recycle old hatreds—and destroy the Ummah from within.
