The Bani Isra’il remained on the straight path for a period of time after Musa (A). However, given half a chance, especially during times when there was no prophet, they would distort the Torah’s message according to their own whims and fancy. And some of them even started worshiping idols. Yet, there were always Prophets sent among them who would command them to work righteous deeds, refrain from doing evil and who would rule them according to the commands of the Torah. One of these prophets was Shamwel. At the time, the Amaliqa, headed by the powerful king Goliath (Jalut) ruled the area between Egypt and Greater Syria. The Almighty had sent Goliath to Bani Isra’il as an affliction.
